About the procedure

For brows thinned by over-plucking, scarring or genetic sparseness, single follicles harvested from the back of the head or the temple are implanted. The arch and tail of the brow are drawn according to facial proportions.

Because the implanted hairs are scalp follicles, regular trimming is needed.

In an eyebrow transplant, channels are opened almost parallel to the skin and run in a different direction in each zone: upward at the head of the brow, outward along the body, and slightly downward at the tail. Only single-follicle grafts are used; double and triple grafts are separated into singles so that the naturally fine texture of the brow is preserved. The nape or the fine-haired area behind the ear is preferred as the donor site.

  • Permanent result
  • Brow design tailored to the individual
  • Short procedure

Suitability

Who is it suitable for?

May be suitable

  • Patients whose brow follicles have been permanently weakened by long-term tweezing or waxing.
  • Those with a section of the brow where hair no longer grows because of burns, accidents, or surgical scars.
  • Those with genetically sparse or short brows who want a permanent look without pencil.
  • Patients with persistent sparseness after brow loss caused by a condition such as thyroid disease has been treated.

Should be postponed or is not suitable

  • In patients with ongoing brow loss from causes such as alopecia areata or trichotillomania, the underlying condition must be brought under control first.
  • If the brow loss is caused by a treatable hormonal or nutritional deficiency, this is corrected before the transplant.
  • If permanent makeup (microblading) has been applied recently and the skin has not yet healed, the procedure is postponed.

The final decision on suitability is made after a physician examination and tests.

Process

How does it proceed, step by step?

  1. 01

    Brow design

The starting point, arch, and tail of the brow are drawn according to your facial proportions; your preferences for thickness and direction are clarified in front of a mirror.

  2. 02

    Donor selection

Fine single-follicle grafts are selected from the nape or behind the ear; the area is trimmed short in a way that stays hidden under the hair.

  3. 03

    Graft preparation

The extracted follicles are separated into singles under a microscope and arranged in order of placement.

  4. 04

    Parallel-angle implantation

After local anesthesia in the brow area, channels are opened parallel to the skin; each follicle is placed in the natural direction of its zone.

  5. 05

    Check and return

A check is done the next day and the first wash is demonstrated on day 2–3; because the procedure is short, the stay is limited to 2–3 days.

Recovery

Recovery timeline

  1. Day 1

Redness and mild swelling appear around the brows; swelling of the forehead and eyelids may become more noticeable the next day.

  2. Days 3–5

The swelling subsides and fine scabs form; the brows are not touched and no makeup is applied.

  3. Days 7–10

The scabs fall off and the redness fades; you can comfortably return to work and social life during this period.

  4. Weeks 3–4

The transplanted hairs fall out in shock loss; the brows temporarily look similar to how they did before the procedure.

  5. Months 3–4

New hairs begin to grow, and their direction may be uneven at first; regular trimming and shaping begins.

  6. Months 9–12

Brow fullness reaches its final form; direction and density are evaluated during this period.

Timeframes are averages; they vary by person and by the scope of the procedure.

Risks and points to consider

Every medical procedure carries risks. The points below are the main known issues for this procedure; a risk assessment specific to you is made during the consultation.

  • Because the transplanted hairs are scalp follicles, they may grow thicker and straighter than brow hair; although they become somewhat finer over time, they require maintenance.
  • If the channel angle is not flat enough, the hairs grow upright; an error in direction is difficult to correct afterward.
  • Slight asymmetry between the two brows can occur; it is usually balanced with shaping, and rarely a small touch-up session is needed.
  • Some of the transplanted follicles may not take; if density is insufficient, a second session is planned.
  • Temporary numbness and swelling around the brows are common and resolve within a few weeks.

Frequently asked

Common questions about Eyebrow Transplant

Do the brows keep growing?+

Yes, they grow like scalp hair and need trimming every 2–3 weeks. The growth rate slows over time.

Do I decide the shape of the brows?+

Your preference is the starting point, but a design that does not match your facial proportions and the direction of existing hair is not recommended; the final drawing is approved together on the morning of the procedure.

Will the transplanted brows look the same as my natural brows?+

The hair texture is closer to scalp hair and requires regular trimming; selecting fine donor hair and a parallel angle minimizes the difference, but it may not be completely identical.

How should I sleep and wash after an eyebrow transplant?+

For the first week, sleep on your back with your head elevated and avoid pillow contact with the brows; for the first 10 days, wash the brows only as demonstrated, without rubbing.

When can I use brow pencil and makeup?+

Once the scabs have completely fallen off, usually from week 2 onward, makeup can be applied to the brow area.

Are there sun and exercise restrictions?+

Direct sun is avoided for the first 2 weeks; for sweat-inducing exercise and swimming, waiting 3 weeks is recommended.
