About the procedure
If sagging is limited to the area below the navel, a full tummy tuck is not required. In a mini tummy tuck, the lower abdominal skin is removed through a short incision similar to a C-section scar; the position of the navel does not change.
It is often performed together with liposuction of the lower abdomen.
The decision for a mini tummy tuck is made only after pinching the tissue above the navel (pinch test) and examining for muscle separation; if there is laxity above the navel, a full tummy tuck is recommended rather than promising a shorter incision. In most patients the procedure is combined with liposuction of the lower abdomen and waist, and usually no drain is used or it stays only briefly.
- ✓Short incision
- ✓The navel is left untouched
- ✓Fast recovery
Suitability
Who is it suitable for?
May be suitable
- ✓People whose sagging is confined to a narrow band below the navel.
- ✓Those close to a normal weight with tight skin above the navel and no muscle separation, or separation limited to below the navel.
- ✓Those with a fold of skin over a C-section scar.
- ✓Those who want a shorter recovery and do not meet the criteria for a full tummy tuck.
Should be postponed or is not suitable
- —Those with excess skin or marked muscle separation above the navel; the mini technique does not solve these problems.
- —Patients with circumferential sagging after major weight loss.
- —Those planning a pregnancy in the near future.
The final decision on suitability is made after a physician examination and tests.
Process
How does it proceed, step by step?
- 01
Initial consultation
The areas above and below the navel are assessed separately; whether the mini technique will be enough is discussed candidly.
- 02
Preparation
Blood tests are completed; smoking and blood thinners are stopped in advance.
- 03
Surgery
Under general anesthesia, the lower abdominal skin is lifted through a short incision, any muscle separation below the navel is sutured, and excess skin is removed.
- 04
Hospital and check-up
You stay 1 night; at the first check-up the incision line and the fit of the garment are assessed.
- 05
Return and follow-up
Clearance to fly is usually given on day 7; remote follow-up continues with scar care instructions.
Recovery
Recovery timeline
Day 1
There is tightness along the incision and swelling in the lower abdomen; walking begins the same day.
Days 3–5
Showering is cleared and pain decreases markedly; the garment is worn all day.
Week 1
You can return to light work; heavy lifting and movements that strain the abdomen are restricted.
Month 1
Swelling has largely subsided; brisk walking and daily activities are allowed.
Week 6
Exercise and abdominal workouts begin with the physician's approval.
Month 6 – Year 1
The scar fades and softens; numbness in the lower abdomen recedes.
Timeframes are averages; they vary by person and by the scope of the procedure.

Before / After
Before and after examples of Mini Tummy Tuck are shared during the consultation.
We show our patients' photos only within the scope of their written consent and in one-on-one consultations; we respect the wishes of patients who prefer not to be published on the open internet. Let us send you results from cases similar to yours together with the physician's assessment.

Risks and points to consider
Every medical procedure carries risks. The points below are the main known issues for this procedure; a risk assessment specific to you is made during the consultation.
- Slight downward pulling of the navel; this can occur if a large amount of skin is lifted.
- Excess skin at the ends of the incision (dog-ears) and scar widening.
- Seroma, bleeding, and infection; less frequent than with a full tummy tuck but possible.
- A result that falls short of expectations because laxity above the navel remains; this risk is reduced through patient selection.
