About the procedure

In PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn, platelet-rich plasma is separated in a centrifuge and injected into the skin. Growth factors stimulate collagen production; fine lines, uneven tone and skin quality improve.

It is also used to support healing after a facelift, eyelid surgery and hair transplant.

The quality of PRP depends on how the blood is processed; for this reason, the centrifuge protocol and platelet concentration are prepared with standardized closed systems, and the plasma is applied without delay. On the face, shallow injections are made in areas where the skin is thinner, such as around the eyes, the cheeks, and the neck; if desired, it is combined with microneedling to increase the spread of the product. When used after surgery, the aim is to support healing, and the timing is decided together with the surgeon who performed the operation.

  • Entirely your own tissue
  • No allergy risk
  • Combined with surgery

Suitability

Who is it suitable for?

May be suitable

  • Those whose skin is beginning to show fine lines, dullness, and loss of elasticity and who do not want to use foreign substances.
  • People who want rejuvenation in thin-skinned areas such as around the eyes and the neck.
  • Patients who want to support healing after a facelift, eyelid surgery, or hair transplant.
  • Those planning a combined treatment with microneedling for acne scars and mild uneven tone.
  • Those who want to improve skin quality in addition to filler and Botox.

Should be postponed or is not suitable

  • Those with a low platelet count, bleeding disorders, or who take blood thinners; a physician's evaluation is essential because of plasma quality and bleeding risk.
  • Those with an active infection, a febrile illness, or an inflammatory skin disease in the treatment area.
  • Patients with an active blood-borne infection, a blood disease, or ongoing cancer treatment.
  • Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding; because there is no urgent need, the treatment is postponed.

The final decision on suitability is made after a physician examination and tests.

Process

How does it proceed, step by step?

  1. 01

    Initial consultation

Skin condition and target areas are determined; bleeding disorders, medications, and blood thinner use are reviewed.

  2. 02

    Preparation

Drinking plenty of water on the day of the procedure and eating adequately before the blood draw are recommended; alcohol and aspirin-like medications are avoided for a few days.

  3. 03

    Blood draw

A small amount of blood is drawn from the arm and platelet-rich plasma is separated in a centrifuge; this stage takes 10–15 minutes.

  4. 04

    Treatment

After numbing cream, the plasma is delivered into the upper layer of the skin with fine needles; if needed, it is spread with microneedling.

  5. 05

    Course and check

Usually 3 sessions are planned 3–4 weeks apart; the skin's response is evaluated at each session.

  6. 06

    Maintenance

After the course, the effect can be sustained with a single maintenance session every 6–12 months.

Recovery

Recovery timeline

  1. Day 1

Redness, mild swelling, and tiny bruises at the needle points; if done with microneedling, the skin may feel like a sunburn.

  2. Days 2–3

The redness passes and the skin returns to its normal appearance; there are no restrictions on makeup or social life.

  3. Week 1

The skin may become slightly dry and flaky; moisturizer and sunscreen are used regularly.

  4. Weeks 3–4

Collagen production begins; the first change in tone and texture is felt, and the second session is done during this period.

  5. Month 3

At the end of the course, the softening of fine lines and the increase in skin firmness are at their most noticeable.

Timeframes are averages; they vary by person and by the scope of the procedure.

Risks and points to consider

Every medical procedure carries risks. The points below are the main known issues for this procedure; a risk assessment specific to you is made during the consultation.

  • Bruising, redness, and temporary swelling at the needle points; they pass within a few days.
  • Because your own tissue is used, allergy is not expected; however, there is a rare risk of infection because of the needle treatment, so sterile preparation and aftercare rules are followed.
  • The effect varies from person to person; age, smoking, and the degree of skin damage affect the result, and it is not sufficient on its own for pronounced sagging.
  • Dizziness or a feeling of faintness during the blood draw; not arriving on an empty stomach and drinking enough water reduce this risk.
  • Temporary darkening of tone when combined with microneedling; prevented with sun protection.

Frequently asked

Common questions about PRP

When will I see the effect?+

Changes in skin quality begin in 3–4 weeks and become more visible as the sessions progress.

How many PRP sessions are needed and at what interval?+

Usually 3 sessions are planned 3–4 weeks apart; afterward, a maintenance session every 6–12 months may be sufficient. The interval is adjusted by the physician according to the skin's response.

When is PRP applied after surgery?+

After facelift and eyelid surgeries, it usually starts from week 2–4, with the surgeon's approval, once the sutures are removed and the wound has closed. For hair transplants, it is applied on the day of the transplant or afterward according to the protocol.

Can PRP and mesotherapy be done in the same session?+

Yes; the plasma can be applied first, followed by the hydrating vitamin mixture. Which combination is appropriate is determined by skin type and allergy history.

Is the procedure painful?+

Thanks to the numbing cream, most patients describe a mild stinging; around the eyes and above the lip are more sensitive. When microneedling is added, a sensation of heat may last a few hours.

Does smoking affect the result?+

Yes; smoking reduces the response by negatively affecting circulation and collagen production. Taking a break or cutting down during the course is recommended.
